Optional: Rear Wire Entry for Stacked Configuration
For stacked configurations, the Powerwall 3 wiring can be concealed by routing it through the back of each unit as follows. This method creates a clean installation that avoids routing the wiring along the sides of the Expansion unit(s) and Powerwall 3.
Required Tools
- 35 mm hole saw
- 51 mm hole saw
Required Supplies
- Rubber cable grommet
- M32 cable gland
- Before mounting the Expansion unit(s),
mark the center of the drilling location on the back of the unit, 82 mm from the top of the unit and 55 mm from the side of the unit.
- Using a hole saw, drill a 36 mm hole in the back of the unit.
- Install a rubber grommet in the hole.
- Pass the
wiring through the cable entry hole, leaving at least 400 mm of cable for termination at
the Powerwall 3, plus an additional 60 mm per Expansion
unit in the stack. For example, pull 460 mm of cable for a stack of two Expansion units
and a Powerwall 3.
- Drill out the 2 inch circle on the back right side
of the fan front cover.
Figure 1. Rear View of Fan Front Cover - Deburr any sharp edges, then install the
fan front cover on the Expansion enclosure.
- Install the remaining Expansion unit(s)
in the stack per Install Stacked Expansion Units,
drilling out the conduit entry hole in the back of each unit and fan front cover as
described above. Install a rubber grommet in each Expansion unit conduit entry
hole for wire abrasion protection.NoteIt is critical that the units are leveled so that they are aligned and the wiring can be run through the stack.
- Install a
cable gland at the Powerwall 3 interface for strain relief, ensuring the sealing surface
is 13 mm from the fan front cover. Push the gland into the enclosure.
- Punch out the rear conduit entry for the Powerwall 3, then install the unit at the front of the stack per Install Stacked Expansion Units.
- Route the wiring into the Powerwall 3 enclosure.
