Metal Tile Insert Detaching Issue, Overview and Mitigation

Energy Products Application Note - June 27, 2025

Overview

It was recently discovered that some Metal Tiles (Part Number: 1833222-01-G) shipped between April 2025 and June 2025 have a quality issue where the adhesion between the polypropylene corrugated insert and the metal tile body is insufficient. This may result in the insert detaching from the tile during handling or cutting.

Root Cause

Incorrect corrugate was utilized during production of 1833222-01-G.

Identifying Corrugate-Detached Metal Tiles

The image below shows an example of the corrugate being easily detached from the metal tile.

Solutions Identified

Avoid holding the metal tile by the corrugated insert whenever possible to prevent detachment.

  • If the insert detaches from the tile upon removal from the packaging or during handling prior to final installation, please return the affected tile to Tesla for replacement.
  • If the insert detaches during cutting, the tile may still be used for installation; however, avoid stepping on it to prevent deformation.
  • For tiles that have been damaged due to being stepped on, Tile Skin (Part Number: 1847636-0X-X) can be applied as a cover to restore appearance.

Future Status

Supplier has since moved back to previous corrugate since the issue was reported and will be utilizing 1833222-01-F as a short-term solution, in order to help identify clean point material and 1833222-01-G will be coming to address the issue.
