Unloading Powerwall 3 with Custom Ramps

The purpose of this tool is to use telescoping ramps to unload Powerwall 3 from Field Service vehicles.

Work type: Installation
Required tools:
  • Cut resistant gloves
  • (2) Pry tools
    • Channel strut or 1" EMT conduit, cut at 16 - 24" length
  • Safety boots

  1. For ramps with part number xxxxxxx-00-A through xxxxxxx-00-G, use the pin latch to clamp the right and left collapsing ramps to the Powerwall 3 packaging:
    1. Remove the pin.
    2. Attach the clamp to the Powerwall 3 packaging.
    3. Insert the pin, verifying that it comes out the other side of the clamp.
    4. Perform a pull test to ensure the ramp is locked in place.
  2. For ramps with part number xxxxxxx-00-H and later, use the latch lock to clamp the right and left collapsing ramps to the Powerwall 3 packaging:
    1. Press the tab to unlock the clamp.
    2. Attach the clamp to the Powerwall 3 packaging.
    3. Perform a pull test to ensure the ramp is locked in place.
  3. Use the pull pins to extend both ramps until they are between 0 - 5 degree incline on the integrated level on the sides of the ramps.

    CAUTION
    Make sure the latches are locked in and secured.
  4. Release the lateral support latch from the right-hand side collapsing ramp.
  5. Attach the lateral support latch to the left-hand side collapsing ramp.

    CAUTION
    Ensure that the support is securely attach to the left-hand side ramp
  6. As a secondary safety measure, place sandbags at the bottom of the rails.
  7. With two operators using pry tools, leverage the Powerwall 3 packaging up and off of the stack, and position it onto the ramp.

    Pry tools can be anything similar to a channel strut or 1" EMT, 16-24 inches in length.

    Note
    You will need to pry two times to position the Powerwall 3 packaging onto the ramp.
  8. With the pry tools, position the Powerwall 3 crate so that the middle feet of the crate are sticking out roughly 1 inch from the packaging below it.

    Serious injury may occur if the top crate does not have the minimum clearance from the packaging below it.
  9. With two operators, tilt and move the Powerwall 3 packaging until it is fully on the ramp.

    Only grab the top of the packaging. Do not attempt to lift the Powerwall 3 packaging from beneath.

    CAUTION
    Ensure the Powerwall 3 packaging is securely sitting on the ramps before moving to next step.
  10. Push the Powerwall 3 packaging down the ramps.

    Use extra caution when the condition is wet, snowy, or winding.
  11. Remove sandbags.

    Do not step in front of the Powerwall's path to remove the sandbags.
  12. Slide Powerwall to the bottom of the ramp.
  13. Follow the Powerwall dolly instructions in the Powerwall 3 install manual to remove the Powerwall from the packaging.
  14. For ramps with part number xxxxxxx-00-H and later, use the latch lock to clamp the right and left collapsing ramps to the Powerwall 3 packaging:
    1. Press the tab to unlock the clamp.
    2. Attach the clamp to the Powerwall 3 packaging.
    3. Perform a pull test to ensure the ramp is locked in place.
  15. Use the pull pins to extend both ramps until they are between 0 - 5 degree incline on the integrated level on the sides of the ramps.

  19. With two operators using pry tools, leverage the Powerwall 3 crate up and off of the stack.

  22. Push the Powerwall 3 crate down the ramps.

  23. Remove sandbags.

  24. Slide Powerwall to the bottom of the ramp.
  25. Follow the Powerwall 3 Mounting Procedure to remove the Powerwall from the crate.
