Confirm Device Setup

After commissioning Powerwall 3 using the Powerwall 3 Device Setup Guide, confirm the following.
  • Confirm the system is on and operational
  • Confirm Powerwall 3 is updated to the latest firmware version
  • All units (Powerwall 3 and Powerwall 2 units) are visible on the Devices page
    • Select each unit to confirm it displays the correct line voltage
  • Confirm the system is charging / discharging normally
  • If Powerwall 3 is connected to solar, confirm the connected strings are visible and solar production is within the expected voltage range
    Note
If moving existing PV strings to connect them to Powerwall 3, ensure all wiring meets current regulations.
  • If the system includes AC-coupled solar, confirm the solar is metered and solar production is within the expected voltage range
  • Confirm all meters are reporting correctly, and there are no errors or alerts present

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Symptom Likely Cause Fix
Powerwall 2 not visible after commissioning Powerwall 3 Communication wiring issue
  • Check communication wiring from last Powerwall 2 to Powerwall 3 Tesla Asset Controller (TACO) and verify 12V and GND have not been swapped
  • Confirm the Powerwall 2 LED(s) are on
Only the Powerwall 3 capacity is displayed
  • Powerwall 2 is not powered
  • Communication wiring from last Powerwall 2 to Powerwall 3 is not connected
  • Confirm Powerwall 2 switch(es) are on
  • Confirm communication wiring from last Powerwall 2 to Powerwall 3 Tesla Asset Controller (TACO) is connected
  • Power cycle Powerwall 3
Powerwall 2 is not responsive to its product switch 12V and GND wires are swapped in communication wiring from Powerwall 2 to Powerwall 3
  • Check communication wiring from last Powerwall 2 to Powerwall 3 Tesla Asset Controller (TACO) and verify 12V and GND have not been swapped (correct if reversed polarity is found)
  • The Powerwall 2 LED will likely be off if the issue is reversed polarity
Power is oscillating when system is off-grid Frequency shift mismatch between Powerwall 3 and Powerwall 2
  • Confirm all units have been updated to the latest available software version
  • Contact Tesla Install Support if the issue persists
