Solar Metering for Standalone Solar
Solar meters capture production from solar inverter(s). Install Solar metering in the
following scenario:
- A Powerwall system is installed
with either Tesla Solar Inverter(s) or third party solar inverter(s): Install a
Solar CT to monitor each Tesla Solar Inverter / third party inverterNotePowerwall+ and Powerwall 3 perform Solar metering on their own Solar.
There must not be any loads or Powerwalls behind the Solar CTs. This would result in under- or over-estimation of solar production.
Note
A single CT can be installed to
measure a split-phase solar inverter, as total power output is calculated by
software. If installing a single CT to measure Solar, toggle 1CTx2 ON during system setup.
Using a single CT and not configuring it as 1CTx2 will prevent the system from
measuring Solar correctly.
Solar can be monitored using Backup Gateway 2 Meter Y and Tesla 100 A CTs, or using a Neurio Remote Energy Meter:
-
Backup Gateway 2 only:
If the solar is within 330 ft (100 m) of the Backup Gateway 2 and less than
100A, a Tesla 100 A CT can be used to monitor Solar. The CT is connected to the
Backup Gateway 2 Internal Secondary Meter (Meter Y). Meter Y has three (3) CT ports,
and one Tesla 100 A CT is included in the Backup Gateway 2 accessory kit. Additional
Tesla 100 A CTs (Tesla P/N 1467316-00-x) may be ordered individually. See Install Tesla 100 A CTs with Backup Gateway 2 for instructions.
- If the solar is greater than 330 ft
(100 m) from the Site Controller and/or is greater than 100A, install a Remote
Energy Meter and CTs to monitor Solar:
- Tesla Remote Energy Meter is compatible with Powerwall 3, and its CTs can be extended up to 16.4 ft (5 m) using a Tesla 200 A CT Extension (Tesla P/N 2060713-xx-y).
- Neurio Remote Energy Meter is compatible with Controller Powerwall+ and Backup Gateway 2, and its CTs can be extended up to 15 ft (4.5 m) using a Neurio CT Extension kit (Tesla P/N 1622289-xx-y).

Note
Neurio Remote Energy Meters are not
compatible with Powerwall 3; Tesla Remote Energy
Meter must be used with Powerwall 3.
Note
If using a Neurio Remote Energy
Meter, the Neurio meter must be able to communicate with the Site Controller; see
Advanced Methods for Connecting Out-of-Range Neurio Meters to
Site Controller if having difficulty pairing the Neurio meter with the
Site Controller.
