Prepare Ethernet Wiring for CAN / 12V Circuits

When using CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet wiring to connect CAN / 12V circuits, connect the Ethernet conductors to the CAN / 12V terminals as follows:
  1. Connect the solid blue wire to the CAN- terminal.
  2. Connect the striped blue wire to the CAN+ terminal.
  3. Combine the remaining solid color wires (orange, brown, and green) at the GND terminal.
  4. Combine the remaining striped wires (orange striped, brown striped, and green striped) at the 12V terminal.

    Note
Combining the wires in this manner increases power / current capability.

Note
A common wiring error is to connect each pair of wires (blue and blue striped, orange and orange striped, etc.) to each terminal. This method does not work, because the wires connected to the CAN- and CAN+ terminals must be a twisted pair.
