Diagnostics

Diagnostics compute common health issues within the system and identify possible issues.

Residential Diagnostic Availability

The following diagnostics describe diagnostic measurements processed over the last 7 days that are available on a residential Powerhub single site dashboard. Diagnostics are separated into three categories: System Performance, Metering Errors, and Networking Errors.

Table 1. System Performance
Diagnostic Units Description Calculation Method Signals PASS Criteria
Daily Average Battery Discharge kWh / day Average battery discharge per day for the past 7 days. Low values caused by faulted or disabled Powerwall unit. If low, check alerts, enable lines, and inverter states of all batteries kWh discharged in last 7 days Battery Energy Discharged > x kWh/day
Time On-Grid % % of time over the past 7 days the system has been connected to the grid. Low values caused by frequent power outages, or bad wiring between grid and Island Controller. If low, check alerts and grid connection to island controller count(Grid Connected Status = connected) / count(Grid Connected Status) Grid Connected Status > 98% on-grid
Daily Average Solar Production kWh / day Average solar production per day for the past 7 days. Low values caused by faulted 3rd party inverter (or solar meter MIA) or faulted/disabled Powerwall+ Solar Inverter. If low, check alerts, enable lines, and inverter states of all inverters kWh discharged in last 7 days Solar Energy Imported > y kWh/day
Internet Connectivity % % of time over the last 7 days the system is connected to the internet. Low values usually caused by poor cellular or Wi-Fi signals. If low, check the connection type and extend Wi-Fi or Ethernet to the Gateway count(Networking State = online) / count(Networking State) Networking State > 98% connected
Load Drops int value Number of times over the past 7 days the system has dropped loads. This is commonly caused by low energy, overload, or hardware faults. If present, check off-grid states and alerts count(Loads Dropped) Loads Dropped < 1
Table 2. Metering Errors
Diagnostic Units Description Calculation Method Signals PASS Criteria
Negative Home Load PASS/FAIL Fails if home load below -100W > 1% of the past 7 days. Caused by unmetered solar generation or incomplete site metering. If present, check all Solar and Site meters for correct install and configuration count(Load Real Power < -100) Load Real Power < 1
Negative Solar PASS/FAIL Fails if solar was below -250W > 1% of the past 7 days. Caused by incorrect solar meter install. If present, check all Solar meters for correct install and configuration count(Solar Real Power < -100) Load Real Power < 1
Table 3. Wiring & Installation Errors
Diagnostic Units Description Calculation Method Signals PASS Criteria
Floating Ground V Maximum Neutral Chassis Voltage over the last 7 days; fails if >20V. Caused by incorrect Neutral wiring and will prevent backup operation. If present, escalate to Tier 2 for review Count(Grid Neutral to Earth Voltage > 20) / Count(Grid Neutral to Earth Voltage) Grid Compliant < 1%
Powerwall Disconnected % % of time over the last 7 days the system has a Powerwall disconnected alert. This is caused by a tripped or open circuit breaker, or incorrect wiring to the Powerwall. If present, check Powerwall voltages and reset all circuit breakers % of time over the last 7 days Battery Breaker Status = 1 Grid Compliant
Grid Compliance % % of time over the last 7 days the system has any ECU reporting an un-compliant grid. This is commonly caused by a bad quality grid connection or incomplete installation count(Grid Compliant = Grid OK / Grid Compliant = Grid NOT OK) Grid Compliant All ECUs are > 95%

1 Title Displays the title of the diagnostic
2 Value/Passing Indicator Provides the value calculated and indicates whether the diagnostic is "passing" with a green icon or 'PASS' string. If the diagnostic is failing, it will be indicated with a red icon or 'FAIL' string and the diagnostic will be highlighted in red on the platform
3 Description The description of each diagnostic health check explains why the problem might be occurring and next steps to resolve the issue
4 Spark Lines Displays spark lines that show the trend of the signal over the past 7 days
