Performing a Backup Switch Manual Override

During normal operation, the system automatically senses grid outages and transitions to off-grid operation. If the grid outage ends and the system is unable to transition back to on-grid operation and is dropping loads, perform a manual override to bring the system back to on-grid operation:

  1. Use a Phillips PH2 screwdriver to loosen the (3X) captive fasteners holding the conduit hub in place and remove the conduit hub. Ensure the communication cable remains plugged in while removing the conduit hub.
  2. Push the Backup Switch Manual Override switch in ONCE to perform a manual override. Tesla installers, certified electricians, utility personnel, and customers are authorized to perform this task.
    • If the Manual Override switch remains closed in the “Grid” position and power is restored, the process is complete and the system is functional (see Backup Switch Manual Override Switch Positions for switch position). Ask the customer to contact Tesla.
    • If the Manual Override switch trips open again to the “Off Grid” position and power is not restored, remove the Backup Switch from the meter socket, unplug the communication cable from the Backup Switch, and ask the customer to contact Tesla (see Backup Switch Manual Override Switch Positions for switch position).

CAUTION
Use the Manual Override only during service events. The system may override a user-prompted manual override action for safety reasons. If the manual override is not successful, contact Tesla Service before taking any additional steps.
