Step 5: Install Energy Metering
Visibility on power and energy data is needed for the system to operate properly. An energy meter accomplishes this by measuring voltage (by voltage tap) and current (by Current Transformer, CT) at certain points in the system. For Tesla Solar Inverter, there are two primary metering goals:
- Metering Solar is
required so that the customer can view their solar production in the app, and in
some cases for sites to qualify for Solar Renewable Energy Credit (SREC)
programs.
- A Neurio energy meter is
required for SREC sites, as the Neurio provides greater accuracy than
Tesla Solar Inverter.
- Solar Inverter with Site Controller (1538000-45-y) has a factory-installed Neurio meter and CT for SREC
- The Neurio meter must be installed for all other Tesla Solar Inverters
- A Neurio energy meter is
required for SREC sites, as the Neurio provides greater accuracy than
Tesla Solar Inverter.
- Metering Site shows the overall power flow to/from a site from the Grid’s perspective. A Neurio energy meter must be installed upstream of all solar production and loads to allow the customer to view their energy usage. Multiple physical Site meters can be installed together where needed, but their sum should capture all of the power flows from loads and solar.
Note
The Neurio W2 remote meter for Tesla
Solar Inverter (Tesla P/N 1112484-04-y) is the only remote energy meter currently
supported for Solar Inverter energy metering.
