Note
On detection of abnormal condition for voltage or frequency conditions or in response to a detected unintentional island, the Tesla Powerwall+ system disconnects from the grid to prevent backfeed.

Important Safety Instructions

This manual contains important instructions for the Tesla Powerwall+ and Backup Switch that must be followed during installation and maintenance of the system.

CAUTION: indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor injury or damage to the equipment.

Powerwall+ installation must be carried out only by a competent electrician who is certified by Tesla and who has been trained in dealing with low voltage electricity.

Electric shock hazard. The DC conductors of this PV system are normally ungrounded but will become intermittently grounded without indication when the inverter measures the PV array isolation. Energy stored in capacitor. Do not remove cover until 5 minutes after disconnecting the equipment. Power fed from more than one source. Disconnect all sources of supply before servicing.

Before beginning the wiring portion of the installation, ensure that Powerwall+ is switched off, and lock out any associated circuit breakers and disconnect switches (if applicable for the installation).

Prior to performing any work on Powerwall+, disconnect it from all voltage sources as described in this document.

Connect and ground the PV modules, array frame, and non-current carrying electrically conductive components so that there is continuous conduction. Observe the applicable local regulations.

This Photovoltaic Rapid Shutdown Equipment (PVRSS) does not perform all of the functions of a complete Photovoltaic Rapid Shutdown Equipment (PVRSS). This PVRSS must be installed with other equipment to form a complete PVRSS that meets the requirements of NEC (NFPA 70) section 690.12 for controlled conductors outside the array. Other equipment installed in or on this PV system may adversely affect the operation of the PVRSS. It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure that the completed PV system meets the Rapid Shutdown functional requirements. This equipment must be installed according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

Do not use Powerwall+ if it is defective, appears cracked, broken, or otherwise damaged, or fails to operate.

Do not attempt to open, disassemble, repair, tamper with, or modify Powerwall+. Powerwall+ and its components are not user serviceable. Batteries in Powerwall+ are not replaceable. Contact Tesla Support for guidance on repairs.

To protect Powerwall+ and its components from damage when transporting, handle with care. Do not impact, pull, drag, or step on Powerwall+. Do not subject Powerwall+ to any strong force. To help prevent damage, leave Powerwall+ in its shipping packaging until it is ready to be installed.

Do not install Powerwall+ within 24 inches (610 mm) of heating vents or radiators. Powerwall can be installed in a mechanical room with HVAC equipment.

Do not immerse Powerwall+ or its components in water or other fluids.

CAUTION
Where supplied by a photovoltaic (PV) system, the Powerwall shall not be installed within the PV array boundary as defined in NEC Article 690.

Do not place Powerwall+ in a storage condition for more than one (1) month, or permit the electrical feed on the Powerwall+ to be severed for more than one (1) month, without placing Powerwall+ into a storage condition in accordance with Tesla’s storage specifications.

CAUTION
Do not paint any part of Powerwall+, including any internal or external components such as the exterior shell or casing.

When installing Powerwall+ in a garage or near vehicles, keep it out of the driving path. If possible, install Powerwall+ on a side wall and/or above the height of vehicle bumpers.
