Make DC Power Connections

  1. Ensure Powerwall+ is not connected to AC power.
  2. If an external DC disconnect means is available, open the external DC disconnect switch.
  3. Ensure that there is no voltage on the DC inputs of Powerwall+.
  4. Connect the PV array equipment grounding conductor to an equipment grounding terminal in the solar assembly.
Figure 1. Solar Equipment Grounding Conductor
  5. For each conductor:
    1. Strip the conductor insulation up to 0.4 inches (10 mm). If the conductor is finely stranded, provide it with a ferrule.
    2. Insert a cabinet tip or electronics tip slotted screwdriver (up to 3.2 mm or 1/8 inch) into the actuation shaft to open the terminal.
    3. Insert the conductor as far as possible into the terminal and remove the screwdriver from the actuation shaft to close the terminal.
    4. Perform a pull test to ensure the conductor is fully seated in the terminal.

Warning
Inserting conductors into the actuation shafts rather than the terminals can result in fire. Ensure conductors are inserted in the terminals.
  • Ensure the conductors are inserted into the terminal points (round openings) as far as they will go and not into the actuation shafts (rectangular openings)
  • Ensure that the terminal points are allocated to the correct conductors
  • Ensure that the conductors are plugged completely into the terminal points up to the insulation

Note
The building and the system shall be marked in accordance with Section 690.56(C) of the NEC (NFPA 70) “Only conductors leaving the footprint of the array are controlled” on DC wiring.
