Servicing the Solar Assembly
Warning
These servicing instructions are for use by qualified personnel
only. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not perform any servicing
other than that specified in the operating instructions unless you are
qualified to do so.
Warning
Live voltage may
be present on the inverter terminals even when there is no power source from
the PV modules. To ensure the DC bus is not powered, always push the System
Shutdown Switch (turn it OFF) to initiate Rapid Shutdown.
In the solar assembly, Rapid Shutdown is initiated by pushing the System Shutdown Switch. Once the System Shutdown Switch has been pushed, the solar assembly will stop power conversion and initiate Rapid Shutdown (all MCIs will open and DC voltages will drop to safe levels). Once the solar assembly is in this state, it is safe to perform service.
To service the solar assembly:
- Push the System Shutdown Switch to initiate Rapid Shutdown.
- This will bring the DC voltage to a safe level.
- Secure the System Shutdown Switch in the open (OFF) position.
- Using a Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the captive screw on the solar assembly door and open the door.
- Remove the DC isolator
connector:
- Push the plastic lever to release the DC isolator connector.
- Remove the DC isolator connector.
WarningThe DC isolator is not load breaking. Ensure AC power is disconnected before unplugging this connector.NoteThe connector inside the unit that serves as the DC isolator is defined as a Disconnecting Means for Isolating PV Equipment in compliance with NEC sec. 690.15. - Wait 5 minutes before
proceeding. WarningRisk of electric shock from stored energy. Wait 5 minutes after disconnecting all sources of supply before proceeding.
- Using a suitable
measuring device:
- Place the test probe in each rectangular opening in the DC-in terminal blocks to ensure there is no voltage present.
- Place the test probe in each rectangular opening in the equipment grounding conductor block to ensure there is no voltage present.
- Place the test probe in each rectangular opening in the AC-out terminal block to ensure there is no voltage present.
NoteSee Appendix B: Wiring Reference for a labeled diagram of all terminal blocks. - Using cabinet tip or
electronics tip slotted screwdriver (up to 3.2 mm or 1/8 inch):
- Open the jaws of each opening in the DC-in terminal blocks and unplug each wire from the blocks.
- Open the jaws of each opening in the AC-out terminal blocks and unplug each wire from the block.
- Open the jaws of each opening in the ground conductor terminal blocks and unplug each wire from the block.
- If performing any work away from the solar assembly enclosure, close the solar assembly door and lock and tag it out using the lock hasps on the enclosure door.
Note
Before closing the solar
assembly door, clean out the enclosure and vacuum out any dust.
