Optional: Configure Powerwall 3 Maximum Power / Current Output
The default maximum power / current output for Powerwall 3 is 11.5 kW / 48 A. Beginning with software version 24.20, the power / current output can be configured to one of the following limits during device setup, except where it is limited by the local grid code requirements:
Nominal AC Output Power at 230 V (kW)4 | 5.8 | 7.68 | 10 | 11.5 (default) | 15.4 |
Maximum Apparent Power (kVA) | 5.8 | 7.68 | 10 | 11.5 | 15.4 |
Maximum Continuous Current (A) | 24 | 32 | 41.7 | 48 | 64 |
Overcurrent Protection Device (A) | 30 | 40 | 60 | 60 | 80 |
This feature can be used for the following purposes:
- Compliance with utility-imposed requirements on maximum inverter power (for instance transformer capacity limits or interconnection requirements)
- Qualification for subsidies or economic benefits (for instance NEM integrity or SGIP)
- Replacing a Powerwall 2, Powerwall+, or third party solar inverter with a Powerwall 3
Configuring a Power / Current Output
Note
When installing Powerwall 3, select the appropriate Powerwall 3 breaker size depending on the
desired power output (see the table above).
- If the system is running, select
Stop
System.
- Select
- Select the desired maximum current / power output from the dropdown menu.
- Select NoteOnce the setting has been confirmed, it cannot be changed by the installer. Contact Tesla Support if the setting must be changed.
.
- Document the configured maximum
current output on the Powerwall 3 product label (use a paint
pen to mark the configured value).
Optional: Enabling 15.4 kW Off-grid Power Output
Powerwall 3 can be configured to provide 15.4 kW of power when the system is off-grid
and is producing sufficient solar. The following are required to enable this feature:
- Powerwall 3 has been installed with an 80 A breaker and appropriately sized conductors
- Powerwall 3 has been configured with a max current output of 11.5 kW (on-grid)
- Powerwall 3 is on software version 24.36 or later
Note
This maximum power should be reflected in the site’s electrical drawing when
used.
To enable 15.4 kW off-grid power output:
- If the system is running, select Stop System.
- Select
- Toggle ON Enable 64A (15.4 kW) Off-Grid.NoteThis toggle will only be available when Max Current Output is set to 48A (11.5 kW) - Default.NoteOnce the setting has been confirmed, it cannot be changed by the installer. Contact Tesla Support if the setting must be changed.
- Document the configured maximum current output and 15.4 kW off-grid power
output on the Powerwall 3 product label (use a paint pen to mark the configured value).
