Enroll in California Title 24 JA12 Compliance

A single Powerwall 3 has a maximum cycling capacity of 13.5 kWh; the user can decrease cycling capacity by configuring the Powerwall's Backup Reserve, which reserves a percentage of the battery for backup events.

To comply with JA12 requirements in California, the Powerwall 3 site must have a minimum cycling capacity of 5 kWh. To ensure the home remains in compliance, the JA12 Special Program can be enabled during device setup. With this feature enabled:
  • The user can still set their Powerwall 3 Backup Reserve to Max Backup (100%) when needed
  • The Powerwall system will only remain in Max Backup mode for 72 hours
  • After the 72 hours have elapsed, the system will automatically reset to the previous Backup Reserve setting which allowed a minimum 5 kWh cycling capacity

To enable the JA12 Special Program:

  1. From the Settings screen, select Advanced Settings.
  2. Select Special Programs > California Title 24 JA12 Compliance.
  3. Select Enroll JA12 Special Program.
