Note
The following instructions describe connecting Backup Switch to Powershare Gateway via CAN and 12V low voltage wiring. Backup Switch is wired but not plugged into the meter socket.
  1. Connect Backup Switch to Powershare Gateway via communication wiring (see Wire Communications from Powershare Gateway to Backup Switch for complete instructions).

    Note
Ensure the communication wire is long enough to reach Backup Switch once it has been installed in the meter socket, and secure the wire as required by local code.
  2. Do not install Backup Switch in the meter socket; instead, place Backup Switch in a durable, watertight bag. There is no color requirement for the bag but it should be easy to find for the utility.

    Note
In the example above, Backup Switch has been placed in a waterproof bag (example bag for reference), which has then been placed in an outer, more durable bag (example bag for reference).
  3. Zip-tie the bag to something in a visible location near the meter.
