General Warnings and Information

ATTENTION: Read this entire document before installation. Failure to do so or to follow any of the instructions or warnings in this document can result in electrical shock, serious injury, or death, or can damage the system, potentially rendering it inoperable.

Note

On detection of abnormal condition for voltage or frequency conditions or in response to a detected unintentional island, the Tesla system disconnects from the grid to prevent backfeed.

This manual contains important instructions that must be followed during installation and maintenance of the system.

Symbols Used


	CAUTION: indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor injury or damage to the equipment.	RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK: indicates components that present risk of electrical shock.
	WARNING: indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in injury or death.	CAUTION, RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, ENERGY STORAGE TIMED DISCHARGE. Discharge time is 5 minutes from de-energization.
Note	NOTE: indicates an important step or tip that leads to best results, but is not safety or damage related.	BIDIRECTIONAL TERMINAL: Indicates location of combined input/output connector on the equipment.
	REFER TO OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS: indicates that user should refer to operating or installation instructions before proceeding.	PROTECTIVE EARTH CONDUCTOR TERMINAL: Indicates location of grounding connection on the equipment.
	POWERSHARE COMPATIBLE EQUIPMENT: Indicates that a piece of Tesla equipment is compatible with Powershare systems.

General Information

Warning

Installation must be carried out only by a competent electrician who is certified by Tesla and who has been trained in dealing with low voltage electricity.

Warning

Do not use equipment if it is defective, appears cracked, broken, or otherwise damaged, or fails to operate.

Warning

To protect the equipment and its components from damage when transporting, handle with care. Do not impact, pull, drag, or step on the equipment. Do not subject to any strong force. To help prevent damage, leave equipment in its shipping packaging until it is ready to be installed.

Warning

Install all electrical equipment in a location that prevents damage from flooding.

CAUTION

The Gateway may not be flush mounted in a wall or cavity.

Note

When using Eaton branch breakers on continuous loads such as Universal Wall Connector, Eaton strongly recommends using only type BR breakers that end in H (for instance BR260H).
